Rising Star

There is much to like in this novel by Susannah Nix. Both the hero and heroine are extremely likable characters that I wanted to root for from the very beginning. I loved the way that Nix handled Alice’s experience with sexual harassment as well as the kind of support she modeled for victims through Alice’s thesis advisor. She masterfully demonstrated the lack of good choices for women who are being harassed or assaulted, spelling out the pros and cons of reporting or not reporting the perpetrator, and how often the consequences for the victim are potentially damaging regardless of the route she chooses to follow. I was equally impressed with the sensitivity of the hero to Alice’s experience. Her experiences were driving all of Alice’s decisions and reactions and Griffin was very respectful of that. The romance that develops between these characters grows so naturally and believably unlike many romance novels, especially with celebrities, where there is an instant chemistry and intensity between the lovers that requires some willing suspension of disbelief. I was quickly drawn into this story and remained engaged from the first page to the last. As a result, I whole-heartedly recommend this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book.

The author treats the subject of harassment with care and sensitivity, and also manages to empower the character dealing with its effects.

The tone of this lovely story is witty, kind, and humorous.

I agree with Straighttalker 198 This book is so boring it should not be given away for free. So far this year I have read over 100 books and this is the only one that’s hard for me to finish. The people who left good reviews must be friends with the author , publisher or both I don’t know I do know that this book was not romantic or humorous. One star is to many but it want let me send my review without it.
