‼️Trigger warnings for a lot of heavy and sensitive subjects.
When 16 year old Olive has a serious episode, she is sent to 'Camp Reset', a special camp for teenagers suffering with mental illness. But whilst there, she realises that maybe it's the world thats the problem, not them. So with her new friends, she comes up with a plan.
This is the first Holly Bourne novel I've read and all I can say is that it's a difficult yet highly rewarding read. HB's writing, based on her experiences at a mental health charity volunteer, is realistic but manages to find humour in places. I really enjoy Olive's narration and her complex character as well as the over Camp Reset kids. The scene with Jamie at the group therapy had me laugh out a little too loudly!
If there's one thing I should say is that the novel can get dark and even triggering at some parts. There were a few moments when I got a bit distressed, so if you know or think you could get upset at some of the topics mentioned, maybe this novel ain't for you.
On the whole, this is an important novel. I just got It Only Happens In The Movies and the Yearbook and I can't wait for them.
