Wish I’d tried this first!

We all know we’re supposed to do these exercises but unfortunately if you’re anything like me it’s hard to get into the habit. I wish I’d tried this app before I spent £250 on ‘the shorts’. Foolishly I thought that 30 mins a day for 4 days would be easier for me to fit in than 3 times a day for 7 days but I was very wrong. The Squeezy sessions take 2 mins, you can do them anywhere which is very appealing to me as I spend a lot of time ferrying kids around, waiting in the car etc! You can initiate a session earlier if needed or defer one if not convenient. As long as you do your 3 a day you will notice results - I’m only 10 days in but already seeing results. Everyone should be asked to try this for a few weeks before they get a referral to a clinician, I get a feeling the NHS would be saved a lot of time and money!

Should only use under the supervision of a therapist that’s actually seen your problem in person!

I started using this app on the say so and recommendation of a gyno physio therapist, they had never seen me in person so they didn’t fully know what was wrong down there. I was passed on to them without being seen by a specialist who would have been able to say what my problem was. I really wish I had never used this app without being seen by a proper gynaecologist first! The app is good for reminding you when to do your exercises and the daily planner lets you keep note of things you have noticed so you have your record available to yourself and also your specialist if you have seen one. I had a gyno physical therapist who had only spoke to me on a phone! They recommend I use this app! The app itself does say you shouldn’t do the exercises if you haven’t been physically seen! After the first 3 months of exercises I ended up in pain. I just thought it must be normal or totally unrelated. I still don’t know why or what it is and I still haven’t been seen by a specialist. So if you have come to this app from the say so from an NHS worker who hasn’t seen you in person DO NOT USE IT!

Developer Response ,

Hello
I am sorry that you have had this experience. The app is developed to be evidence-based and is carefully designed and worded to avoid problems for people who are best not doing pelvic floor exercises without professional guidance. It does discuss the need to see a health care professional in some circumstances, but it is perfectly safe to use without seeing one. I recommend that everyone reads the information section first, to be aware of potential problems. I hope that you have now been able to access the help you need.

Not able to set the exercises I’ve been prescribed

Generally I find the app easy to use and it’s a good reminder for me to do my exercises, as well as making it easier to do them on the go since I don’t have to concentrate on counting the seconds myself.

My only issue is that I seem to be unable to set the exercise plan that I’ve been given my an NHS physio, which seems like a miss. I am supposed to do 3 x 3 sets of 10 slow and fast, so 9 sets in total over the course of the day, in 3 sittings. However the maximum I can plan in the app is 6 sets, and if I select this I would end up with 6 reminders throughout the day. It would be great if there was an option to set up ‘sets per session’ as well as the current sessions/reps/squeeze and relax time.

It would also be great to be able to set up sets for relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles too, since I’ve been told this is just as important.

Developer Response ,

Hello
Thank you for your feedback!
If your physio is asking you to do 3 sets of 10 slow and 10 fast, in every session, and to do three of those sessions every day, then you will be unable to set that up in the app. The reason for that is that Squeezy is designed to be suitable for everyone to use, within the limits described in the introductory articles. The settings are pre-planned to fit with the current evidence. This is that men and women with pelvic floor symptoms should perform up to ten slow squeezes, at 10 seconds hold each time, and ten fast squeezes, up to six times a day. Women only should perform these same exercises up to three times a day as a maintenance or preventative measure. The relaxation component is built in to this and the rest and relaxation phases can be increased as required.
The number you have been prescribed is not able to be put in to the app because they would be too much for the vast majority of people, and the app is set up so that we do not put people at risk of causing any soreness or overactivity by overworking these muscles.
I hope that you are able to find a way to manage this, perhaps by doing all three sets each time one of your three reminders goes off. You can do this by using the "Squeeze now" petal to repeat the sets.

I hope this clarifies the situation and good luck with your plan!

Best wishes

Myra Robson (Squeezy physio)
