Metronomy Essentials

Metronomy's lean bass/drums/keys interplay cuts straight to the heart of the indie-dance aesthetic. Formed in 1999, the UK band set themselves apart from their peers with their woozy, slightly downcast air, as though their songs have been rescued from a tear-stained mixtape. From 2011, “The Look” and “The Bay” court the breezy melancholia of the English seaside, with frontman Joseph Mount's falsetto fluttering like a torn kite; “Heartbreaker” wraps a nonchalant dance beat in queasy synths and horns, while 2016's “Night Owl” sharpens the psychedelic edges of their despairing disco.
