A mother and her two children fight for their lives following a devastating house fire. As Mathias tries to hunt down the person that started it, he uncovers a controversial plan to flood a remote valley high in the mountains, a plan that spells disaster for the small community that lives there. But is it this plan that led to the fire, or was it something much closer to home?

A young woman goes missing from her flat in a windswept coastal town. Human remains are soon discovered at the address, but they are not those of the missing girl. As Mathias investigates further, he is drawn into a world of hotel workers, on-line lonely hearts and a deadly stalker trapped by the scent of his victim.

The body of a man is found naked and emaciated under the rusted uprights of Aberystwyth pier. Pathology reports that the dead man’s stomach is full of pebbles and bottletops. Mathias’ investigation leads him to a newspaper article about four school-friends in the late 70’s that claimed to have seen a UFO in a field adjacent to their village school. Four friends who haven’t spoken in twentyfive years. But is there a link? Does the UFO story conceal a more sinister childhood secret?

A man is found face down in a field, a bullet in his head. A short distance away, a small village bus stands abandoned in the middle of a remote country lane. Mathias’ investigation leads him into a world of drug dealing and recrimination. And to a remote ‘retreat’ high up in the hills where a group of broken souls live, isolated from society.
