Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re well very well. We have another rescued episode and one that I genuinely thought had been lost forever. This is episode sixty four and features Katie and Thom from the now chart topping band The Lottery Winners. 
We had a chat in York whilst they were on tour with the also chart topping Frank Turner. 
Before speaking to Kate and Thom, I kept hearing about The Lottery Winners as they just seemed to be constantly supporting a huge range of bands which in itself isn’t unusual for a band that loves playing live and will take every opportunity to get in-front of new crowds but the fact that all of these bands raved about how great they were made me take more notice.
Then after checking out the tour diary from their dates with Tom Jones as well as the video for Start Again, featuring Frank, I was pretty hooked and then there was the Knickelback Rockstar sea shanty. At that point they joined the list of hopeful future guests. All I can say is they did not disappoint, I enjoy all of these chats but I don’t think I’ve laughed as much in a recording as I did in this so I apologise but it was loads of fun and The Lottery Winners are an absolute force live. As many of you who bought the Anxiety Replacement Therapy album confirmed, they write great songs but it is out in the wild where they really come to life and I strongly recommend getting to a show.
We chatted about their influences and the albums and artists that inspired them and Thom’s desire to be Freddie Mercury which, from their social media it seems he’s dug out his childhood costume.

Whilst all the guests I have on here are people I think have interesting stories and I’m generally a fan of their work, every now and then I’m lucky enough to spend time with someone whose work has had a significant impact on me and this is absolutely one of these times. I enjoyed Symposium when they were first around and have certainly developed a greater appreciation for what a force they were, especially live but Hell Is For Heroes had a huge influence on me as a musician and were / still are one of my favourite bands to see live. I’m please to report that based on spending an hour with him, Will is a fricking delightful person and I would go for a curry with him. The list of gigs he attended back in the early to mid 90’s is amazing and was great hearing about his experiences with record labels as well as many other stories.

Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast I hope you’re all well. Now that the episodes have been recovered there’s going to be a whole load that were recorded a while back and this is a great way to kick them off. Episode sixty two featuring the Andy - current bass master with raging speedhorne, previously rocking guitar with Freeze the Atlantic and of course bassist in Hundred Reasons. 
This was recorded a year ago as Hundred Reasons were on tour with Hell Is For Heroes and My Vitriol prior to the release of Glorious Sunset which has just turned 1! 
I spent a large amount of the 00’s listening to and going to see Hundred Reasons and covering some of their tracks - in fact the same is applicable for the other bands on that tour. For me they were a big influence in terms of the music I was writing and whilst their debut Ideas Above Our Station was a standout album, I really loved everything they released - so I was a little hesitant (albeit quite excited too) when I heard they were releasing new music but from the listen of the first single and title track, Glorious Sunset, I was absolutely hooked again. If you haven’t heard the album all the way through, or in fact if you haven’t listened to it all this year, please do. It’s genuinely great and has back on rotation for me throughout February. 
Andy was delightful to chat to and despite having to keep the volume down due to a sleep driver below us on their bus, we covered a whole range of topics and it was great to hear about his introduction to music as well as how the latest album came to be.

Hello people welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast how are you I hope you’re all well. We are back and have a really fun episode to share. This is episode 61 and features GK and Hannah from the predominantly Yorkshire based band Venus Grrrls. We caught up at the delightful Brudenell Social Club in Leeds a few days before their first headline gig there - which if you’re listening at any point before 8pm on Saturday 10th February 2024, you can still get along to. 
Venus Grrrls have been on my list to chat to for a while but due to a global pandemic and GK’s leukaemia diagnosis either of which could have been the end of the band, we have only just been able to make this happen. 
We discuss both GK and Hannah’s history with music how the band came to be and unlock the secret to building and maintaining a loyal fan base. 
I had a great chatting to these two and I hope you enjoy listening. They are setting 2024 up to be a busy year with support dates with The Sprints and festival slots already in the calendar so keep a look out. Links to all their social media and YouTube channels are in the description of this episode, I strongly recommend you check them out along with their latest track Divine, which has been described as a lusty grunge storm of a single and already getting support from Radio 1, radio x and 6 music amongst other. Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re well. This is episode sixty and features Tracey Wise, the founder of Safe Gigs For Women, a not for profit organisation who work with all aspects of the music industry to raise awareness of good practices and ways for venues to create safe spaces for women. 
This was a really interesting chat for me, as a man my only safety consideration when going to gigs is: how close to the pit do I want to be today and to think that in the times we live in where the basic rights of equality and respect should be a given to anyone, its horrendous that a service like this is even needed. 
Tracey was great to speak to and gave a brilliant insight into how Safe Gigs For Women came about, her own journey as a music lover, the people that have stepped up to help spread the word and the services available to people. 
Without just rehashing the conversation, after having time to reflect on this, her comments around artists that ‘own their mosh pit’ really stuck with me. Frank Turner was the example here but there are other musicians from Sam Carter of Architects to Drake who have been highlighted as calling out members of their audience after seeing a whole range of abhorrent behaviour and whilst I think it is great that these instances are brought into the public eye, it does spark the question - could artists be doing more to ensure these acts don’t happen in the first place rather than having to react after the event? I would love to see some public service announcements at festivals by headline acts speaking out about this or clear messages that abuse is not tolerated when bands are promoting their vip ticket upgrades and soundcheck passes.

Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well, we’re back with another episode recorded at Slam Dunk 2022. The 2023 festival is just under 3 weeks away and looks to be another awesome day with a line up mixing up some of the best Punk / Rock and bands around with a good blend of legends and new faces.
Here I speak to Canadian rocker and host of the great podcast Lead Singer Syndrome: Silverstein vocalist Shane Told who highlights my love of tapping - Brendan and Tyler from Canadian hardcore band COUNTERPARTS and wrapping up this episode is Chuck Ragan and yet another Canadian, Mr Chris Crestwell of Hot Water Music. 
As I’ve said before, this was a busy day but filled with conversations featuring absolute heroes and I genuinely enjoyed speaking to and meeting each of these guests. Festival slots can be tricky as these conversations are often very restricted by time and guests are being ushered around a heaving press tent with music from at least 2 stages competing against each other as well as our voices however everyone of the guests from Slam Dunk, not just this episode, were incredibly giving with their responses and hopefully these are as much fun to listen to as they were to record.
