In a landmark year for the UK, we set ourselves a challenge. Could we—Apple Music editors and Apple Music radio hosts—arrive at a century of songs that we feel truly built the modern United Kingdom in all its diverse glory? It was, entirely predictably, one of the greatest challenges we’ve ever taken on: How do you distill 70 years of music excellence down to just 100 songs? But after much impassioned debate, here we are. Songs that, we feel, represent the key genres, talent, culture, and movements of UK music.
