Strange Arrivals

Welcome to Strange Arrivals, where host Toby Ball unravels history's most famous cases of extraterrestrial encounters. This season three, we look at UFO researchers who developed theories to explain the phenomenon and the consequences those theories had for people who believed they had experienced the paranormal.

Very well researched but….

I really enjoyed listening to all three seasons of this podcast, but I think the one big flaw is that he goes in as a pretty hardcore skeptic and never really strays from that close-minded view. Just like ufo believers, skeptics tend to cherry pick evidence to fit into their worldview. For example, he uses one clip from Diana Pasulka in the last episode to fit his narrative view, when in reality she has a much more open minded view about the subject. I think some evidence doesn’t always have an answer for either side of this and it isn’t necessary to make it fit into a certain view.
Stuck between 3 and 4 starts

The podcast is well produced, but the thing about Toby Ball is that you always know what kind of take he will have before he gets to it. He does’t really believe anything, which is fine, but there is no mystery here at all.
Great Show, however…

I have one issue and it’s with the Mothman episode. The alternatives being Cranes, Owls, ect. Are pretty ridiculous and were already debunked. There were a lot of things going on and all of the “rational” explanations fall extremely-almost embarrassingly short to the point where they seem more outlandish than the claims of seeing the creature itself. I would have preferred an alternate look to the claims rather than insultingly shallow attempts at debunking.
A Worthy Contribution to a Larger Conversation
02/28/2024
A very well researched and produced series that seeks to cover the entirety of the modern history of UFO/UAP and abductee/contactee phenomena. Even though I’m fairly well acquainted with most of the accounts and ideas presented over the three seasons, I was impressed by the fresh perspectives and journalistic integrity found here. Yes, the host is a skeptic at heart, and while I don’t agree with all his conclusions, and feel that his reporting is constrained by a certain paradigm, the same could be said for any individual on earth. This show is just one part of a larger conversation. If you’re like me and have heard these stories before, I’d say this is a very solid crash course in the makings of this living, evolving mythos. If you’re newer to this field, regardless of your level of invested belief (one way or another), this is a fantastic starting place for grounded thoughts and investigation. (Would love to hear more from this team of creators! Thanks for the hard work.)
Good topics bad narration

Narrator has a wet, spitting back of the throat congested sound. Hard to listen to.
Very biased and slanted
08/18/2023
This podcast is extremely biased debunker garbage. The host doesn’t seem to believe anything at all, and will spend so much time going over the classic reasons for truly bizarre events like “it’s just a weather balloon” or “a bird” or “the people who saw can’t be trusted they’re kooks.” Absolute waste of your time if you want a good mystery/sci-fi podcast. You immediately know the slant or point of view on any topic before they even begin. The show is well-produced though, I’ll give em that. But the way many topics and stories are treated it almost makes me think someone is intentionally just trying to muddy the waters with this podcast.
Guess Skeptics Can’t Update Their Material
06/12/2023
Doesn’t the fact that the US Military has now said there are UAP’s offer an alternative theory that you are trying to debunk. So, your theory is just as alternative, and you have ruined these people’s reputation and ruined their lives callously. You owe them an apology.
Enthralling, illuminating, by far the best Grim & Mild production
04/10/2023
A fantastic, richly researched combination of UFO lore, journalism, history, folklore, and psychology. I devoured two seasons in less than a week—and thank goodness season three is ongoing, or I would have gone through withdrawal. I also have to say that, while I’ve enjoyed a fair number of Grim & Mild podcasts over the years, many hosts have a tendency to indulge in some wince-worthy cheesy lines (sometimes to the point of disrespecting human tragedies for a bad pun) and a general tone that wouldn’t be out of place on a History Channel special with a title like “Hitler’s Secret Occult Magicians.” All sensationalist fluff with the facts obscured by hosts’ monologues. This podcast is a breath of fresh air in that the content is thoughtful and narratively engaging, but without getting long-winded and corny.
Excellent Production. Superbly Documented.

You guys did a fantastic job of researching & documenting this complicated story. So many of your contemporaries fail to look at all the data & recorded media. In short, your contemporaries fail. They either make a joke out of what they’ve failed to comprehensively research or they don’t have the brain power or energy to actually put te pieces of the story together. Your team did it all correctly. Bravo Zulu.
Same tired old stories
03/24/2023
Disappointing. Last thing I want to hear is stories I’ve heard a hundred times. I’m a life long experiencer and abductee, not an enviable life in that respect. Always looking for fresh contemporary experiences. Who thought a redo of old stories was a good idea?
