THE BASICS

Get Started With Apple Pay

The quick, easy, and secure way to check out.

Whether you’re shopping at a store, on a website, or in an app, Apple Pay is the faster and more secure way to check out. There’s no account to create or card info to enter. And it works seamlessly whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Most major credit and debit cards work with Apple Pay. You can rest assured your card number is never shared by Apple with the merchant, nor is it ever stored on Apple’s servers or even on your device. You’ll also continue to earn all the rewards and perks the physical card offers.

Here’s how to get started:

Add a credit or debit card

Launch the Wallet app,tap the blue plus sign in the upper right corner of the screen, and follow the step-by-step instructions. Once your bank verifies your card, you’re all set.

Shop in apps or on the web

When you check out with Apple Pay in most websites and apps, you won’t have to type in any billing, shipping, or contact info—it’s all provided to the app or website by authenticating with Touch ID or Face ID. Simply choose Apple Pay as the payment option at checkout.

Shop in stores

Apple Pay is accepted in millions of brick-and-mortar stores around the world. If you see either of the above symbols near the register, you’re good to go.

On iPhone X or newer devices, double-click the side button, glance at the screen to authenticate with Face ID, and hold your iPhone near the contactless reader.

With other iPhone models, hold your iPhone near the reader while placing your finger on the home button to authenticate with Touch ID.

With an Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display of your Apple Watch near the reader. Wait until you feel a gentle vibration.

Find businesses that accept Apple Pay by searching your Maps app for the phrase “Apple Pay near me.” Or tap a business’s info card in Maps to see if it accepts Apple Pay.
