Perfectly Adequate had me smiling before I was finished with the second page. I don’t know how Jewel E Ann does it. I’m in absolute awe.
Dorothy Mayhem. Gah! You’ve got to love her. She’s quirky, feisty, lovable, selfless. She sees and reasons life as simply as doing the right thing regardless of its benefits. She puts others first. She is an extraordinary soul that I could never come close to being. I’ll admit there were a few times I wanted to pull my hair out because I just wanted her to be a little selfish, but then that wouldn’t be Dorothy.
Eli Hawkins is a man. And I don’t say that to be facetious. I say it because men are complex. His thoughts and reasoning and his complete acceptance of Dorothy is exactly how it should be. Of course, he is not without his flaws. He makes mistakes. He wants to love and be loved. He wants to do the right thing. He wants to be okay.
Dorothy and Eli are as human as it gets. They love and live life in all its beautiful and messy ways. They are not without struggles. And that’s exactly how Ms. Ann gives it to us and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Jewel E Ann never ceases to amaze me. She can write anything. She doesn’t just tell a story, she tells about life. She writes characters that are inspiring. And this time she perfectly wrote a story that is way beyond adequate.

Seriously. This is a beautiful book. What a beautiful portrayal of loving people for exactly who they are. Such a joyful rendering of a character with autism as wonderful, real, human and worthy of love and respect. Well done.
Perfectly Adequate
First time reading this author, will most definitely read her again. This was an unusual story, with wonderful characters that made me smile, laugh aloud, and get tears in my eyes. I loved it !
