From Paper To People

Take your ancestors from names on paper to multidimensional people who lived, breathed, loved, lost, and helped you to be who you are. Benefit from 40+ years of experience in folklore, history, genealogy, law, and tools of FamilySearch, Ancestry, Newspapers.com and more. I learn from my many mistakes, I teach from those lessons. I interview genealogists and authors. I discuss Reparational Genealogy - how Anglo- or European-American researchers can assist African-American researchers in restoring connections destroyed by centuries of chattel slavery. I even give recipes from ancestral meals in the Family Cookbook episodes. And if YOU want to be interviewed, let me know!

I Just Found This Podcast
09/10/2020
I am just getting started on genealogy so have been focused on finding resources. I joined a local genealogical society here in Williamson County, Texas and today, in a virtual meeting, someone shared the name of this podcast. So I listened to my first two episodes and I’m all in! I am going to binge listen to every episode! Carolynn is like having a professor in your smartphone!
Great Juneteenth episode

As a white woman she approached the subject by countering all of the racist lies we have been taught in history classes. She clearly cares so much about doing her industry justice and I love her straightforward story telling.
Love her spirit

I started listening a few weeks ago and fell in love with Carolynn's style. No BS, straight forward messages. Even after doing genealogy for over 20 years, I find that I still learn a lot from her podcasts. She inspires me to do more volunteer work for others, especially the reparational genealogy. I am looking forward to hearing more of herr podcast.
Love the NY attitude

This is my favorite genealogy podcast! Carolynn is witty and smart, and a stickler for detail, which is so important in genealogical work. Her topics are wide ranging and well researched. She never disappoints.

An absolute listening pleasure!

Finally, a snarky and smart fast paced podcast! It delivers a ton of helpful information in a no holds barred way. Carolyn is appropriately opinionated and backs it all up with logical rational. She’s witty and makes up her own vocabulary to describe actions and behavior. Listening makes you feel like you have found a new friend who knows so much more than you but in a good way! I also like her call for modern genealogists to be politically active by fact checking and doing reparation work. Great listen!
This show is fantastic!

And so is Carolynn - super smart, respectful, caring. Funny too! She really wants to help others learn the right way to research their ancestors. After putting a lot of old home movies on YouTube for my family to watch I wanted to learn more about genealogy. I inherited a lot of genealogy paperwork done in the 1980s by my grandmother. Carolynn’s approach has really helped me enter the info into Ancestry without using other people’s trees! And to shrub! It’s been a fun way to solve puzzles and get to know my grandma better even though she’s gone now. Thanks for what you do!
Best way to commute

I feel like Caroline is the best friend I’ve never met. I listen to the podcast on the way to work and home and her knowledge, mixed with quick wit, makes it a quick trip. I love the folklore mixed with the research tips. And being a fellow LDS member makes her feel even more like a Sister that I might hang out with in the family history center in Wednesday nights. I can’t say enough good things about the podcast and everybody should give her a chance!
