About Nahko And Medicine For The People

Nahko And Medicine For The People is a socially conscious, globally minded collective that fuses soul, R&B, folk, rock, and hip-hop into a uniquely healing sound. ∙ Formed in 2008 and fronted by the enigmatic Nahko Bear, the group first broke through with 2013’s Dark As Night, which reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. ∙ Celebrated actress Shailene Woodley pops up in the band’s 2014 video for “Black As Night,” and she also has an uncredited appearance on the LP Hoka, which dropped two years later. ∙ Hoka reached No. 6 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart and was followed by 2020’s politically charged Take Your Power Back, which hit No. 3. ∙ Branching out on his own and delving into his traumatic past, Nahko released his debut solo album, My Name Is Bear, in 2017.
