Kasa Smart 4+

Great product that saves me time and energy, and provides peace of mind. I use the programmable feature to use my plugged-in lamps as a timer and an reinforcing addition to my alarm clock… I simply schedule lamps to come on at my wake up time alongside my alarm clock, to triple ensure I do wake up, and go off at 5 min intervals - 15, 10 and 5min - before I have to leave the house in order to signal myself it is time to wrap up getting ready if I want to be on time :) (one can program several on and off schedules per each plug independently or jointly and specify day/days of the week they relate to.
Not to mention I can control the plugs on off switches still manually (via buttons on the plug) and/or remotely via the phone app (when lazy or too cozy to leave the bed). Controlling the plugs can be done whenever wherever as long as connected to internet. Set up was very easy and straightforward, instructions given in the box and through the app… One needs to have a wife though and be willing, at least at the beginning at setup, to share one’s location - so one cane use the sunrise and sunset feature and have correct time synchronisation. I did not mind that. Happy as a clam! ..And proud owner of 3 smart plug units so far :)

I purchased a TP Link KC200 outdoor camera as recommended as one of the best buys in 2020 from Which. For £70 the camera is a bargain and the app has plenty of functionality for protecting the ‘average’ household. I was so impressed with both the camera and app, I bought a second camera. We have one above the front door/partly covering our side drive and the other covering the side door to our house/drive. Day and night vision is good, notifications work well (linked to my Fitbit) and I was able to talk to the DPD delivery man to ask him to leave the parcel in the drive whilst we were out walking on Sunday! Sure, the speaker is not extremely loud, nor is the siren but a fantastic bit of kit and app for £70 - and free subscription for 2 years as well as long as two rolling days of camera footage is all you want - and of course, you can save/send footage if you want to keep it - and £2.99 a month to extend the rolling days to 30 is very reasonable.

The Kasa switches themselves are small and elegant, much less obtrusive than WeMo switches. I bought the tp-link switches as I needed more and I wanted to compare them to WeMos. I prefer the Kasa aesthetics in that they look much nicer, but I won’t be buying anymore until the app is sorted out.
The app connection routine is virtually identical to the WeMo procedure. After that, the WeMo app leaves the Kasa app standing. The programming of the Kasa switches is not intuitive at all and the ridiculous setting of only being able to switch on at sunset or off at sunrise is of no use to me. My WeMo’s are programmed to come on 45 minutes before sunset as turning lights on at sunset is too late. Why doesn’t the Kasa app allow this?
I thought I had set the Kasa switches to come on at sunset (for some festive lights) and off at 2300. In fact they come on at 2300 and I have no idea how to get them to come on at sunset and off at a set time. Check the WeMo app Kasa programmers, and see how easy an interface can be.
In summary, nice switches, but I’ll hold onto my WeMos until the Kasa app is sorted out. Yes I could reprogram the time each week, but then I could get much cheaper switches that do that.
