Originario de Kentucky, Red Foley (1910-1968) fue un consumado showman y una figura crucial en la modernización de la música country. Considerado la versión pop de Hank Williams, Foley fue uno de los primeros músicos de country en grabar en Nashville. Gracias a su dulce voz de barítono y su afable personalidad, Foley consiguió otorgarle un carácter decididamente urbano al estilo más rústico de artistas como Roy Acuff o The Carter Family. Además de amasar un impresionante catálogo de éxitos, entre ellos "Charranooga Shoe Shine Boy", "One By One" (con Kitty Wells) o "Peace in the Valley", Foley condujo las populares emisiones radiofónicas The Prince Albert Show y Ozark Jubilee y actuó en la serie de televisión Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
