Fronted by singer/guitarist Nick Hexum and rapper/turntablist Doug “SA” Martinez, 311 built a loyal fanbase throughout the ‘90s with heavy touring and a unique mix of hard rock, hip-hop, funk, and reggae. The Omaha, Nebraska quintet's hits range from the mosh pit-ready riffs of “Down” to the languid island grooves of “Amber” and a groovy reimagining of The Cure's “Love Song.” But the band also mixes its diverse influences together all at once on ambitiously omnivorous songs like “Come Original” and “Transistor” that preach 311's open-minded philosophy.
