BLINDSIDED

SoCal natives, Nate and Cody have been friends since childhood. Both knew they were different—and the same. At seventeen, a stolen weekend in the Florida Keys drove their connection deeper and hotter than either could imagine. They were meant to be together. Then, for reasons only Nate knows, suddenly they weren’t.

They’re still friends. Best friends. But they’ve moved on and found other partners. The yearning remains, however, despite the long-ago secret that drove them apart, and when tragedy strikes, both men find themselves in the dark. They must grope their way back to who and what they are...which they will find in each other’s arms. Sometimes, losing one’s sight can open one’s eyes—and heart.

@NeeVA ,

Friendship matters

Nate Powell wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings to find he's in the hospital. He was totally disoriented, not remembering what happened and unable to see. He was wondering where his friends Jon or Cody were. He returned to conciousness 2 days later to Jon trying to calm/comfort him. He remembered getting an award and dancing at a party. He and Jon were arguing abotu Jon's ex, Caleb's attempt to get back with Jon. A female driver hit Jon while he was out running, then called the police. Jon couldn't tell him the truth, doctor said damage to his eye and he may be permanently blind. Nate and Cody were good friends when they were young, veering toward romance, then had a moment that disrupted their paths. They went their own ways in life. Current day, Cody came to help his friend. He planned to help Nate get back on his feet and find his balance as an unsighted person. They each care for each other, but their personal baggage holds them back. Everyone can see the truth but Nate and Cody. Will they have the talk? Can they set their baggage down? Will they take the step together? Will Nate get his sight back? Nice story. Very emotional and deep! Well done. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mediocre composition. Bold title font, clear author font. Would not visually catch my eye.
Synopsis - as I am a sucker for the flaws heroes or lead characters, this one sounds like it may fit the bill. Willing to give it a try based on synopsis.

Sculpting artist, Nate, is the victim of a hit and run while out running one night. The impact send him tumbling down a ravine where injuries sustained result in a permanent loss of vision. With the loss of his vision, his vain model boyfriend starts distancing him at the fastest rate possible.
Cody, Nate's best friend and local hot shot art gallery owner, flies home from Europe to be there for his friend, despite the cold shoulder from Nate's boyfriend. With the help of a transition therapist and an art instructor for the visually impaired, Cody encourages Nate to start living a new version of his old, normal life.
The two already have a childhood history, so their bond and chemistry is apparent from the start. Throw in a few colorful characters, both for and against the lead couple, and you have a dynamic cast. I was mildly disappointed that while Cody's family took him in [read book to understand the when and why], they received no actual page time other than mere mentions, whereas Nate's parents were featured and his sibling was a figment of our imaginations.
There were some minor points of "I saw that coming", but nothing so big as to ruin any key elements. At times, the conversations felt more scripted than natural and a few UK English words slipped past the proofreaders and editor, which is on them - not the author.
The plot flowed well and the story was enjoyable to read.
No cliffhangers. HEA provided. Solid ending.
