About Family

Led by the striking, vibrato-laden voice of Roger Chapman, Family started out as an influential early exponent of British psychedelia in the 1960s before evolving into a more prog-rock-oriented outfit in the early '70s. The band released seven albums before splitting up in '73. Chapman went on to form the more hard-rock-oriented Streetwalkers with Family guitarist John “Charlie” Whitney. Former Family bassist Ric Grech had already graduated to supergroup Blind Faith, while subsequent bassist John Wetton went on to King Crimson, U.K., and Asia.
