About The Soft Boys

Formed in Cambridge, England, in the late 1970s by the inimitably eccentric singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock, the Soft Boys released their first proper album in 1979. It was quietly but positively received by both the press and a small portion of the public who were restlessly coming off the punk revolution and in need of something stimulating. The next year, the band released their influential masterpiece and swan song, UNDERWATER MOONLIGHT, a tuneful blend of retro lysergic abstraction, Beefheartian experimentation, and pure jangly catchiness. The band broke up shortly after, setting the stage for Hitchcock's lengthy, prolific solo career. Guitarist Kimberly Rew went on to write the monster hit "Walkin' on Sunshine" for Katrina & the Waves. In 2002, the Boys reunited for a series of successful tours and an excellent one-off album.
