Private Tales

On their fifth album, California psychedelic rockers Sleepy Sun settle into a sun-kissed, meditative mode, more interested in making songs that wash over rather than clobber ("Seaquest"). "When the Morning Comes" opens with a giant, meaty riff, but before long they lock into an almost krautrock-worthy groove, letting their walls of blissful guitar drones slowly build and float. They can also pull back, serving jangling guitar and floating hooks in "Demon Baby" and a shimmering acoustic ballad in "The Plea."
