At age 16, singer-songwriter Matt Corby appeared as a contestant on Australian Idol, where he came in second place. ∙ Looking for new inspiration, Corby temporarily moved to London and signed with Communion, an indie label co-owned by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons. ∙ He hit the Australian charts for the first time with 2011’s Into the Flame, a EP that has since gone Platinum seven times over. ∙ “Brother,” a single from Into the Flame, earned Song of the Year honors at the 2012 ARIA Awards, and Corby won again the following year, for the track “Resolution.” ∙ Telluric, his long-awaited first album, debuted at No. 1 on the Australian charts in 2016. ∙ Tropical house DJ/producer Kygo enlisted Corby to guest on “Serious,” a track from the former’s 2016 debut LP, Cloud Nine. ∙ Corby’s LP Rainbow Valley was named Australian Album of the Year at the 2019 J Awards, and producer Dann Hume picked up an ARIA Award for Producer of the Year.
