Publisher Description

On-the-run ex-agent Peri Reed returns bigger and bolder than ever in this second highly-anticipated installment in #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison's new suspense trilogy, The Peri Reed Chronicles.

Peri Reed’s job eats her mind, but for a special task agent in hiding, forgetting the past can be a blessing.

Betrayed by the man she thought she loved and the agency who turned her into the very thing she fought against, Peri abandoned the wealth and privilege of Opti for anonymity riddled with memory gaps and self-doubt. But when a highly addictive drug promises to end her dependency on those who’d use her as a tool for their own success, she must choose to remain broken and vulnerable, or return to the above-the-law power and prestige she once left: strong but without will—for whoever holds her next fix, will hold her loyalty.

Yet even now as then, a love based on lies of omission might still save her life.

Action-Packed Thriller

The operator is a fast-paced, compelling, thriller.
Peri Reed is a drafter. She has the unique ability to remake history; by turning back time and rewriting it. The problem is, though, that Peri loses memory with each draft. Bill, an evil and manipulating key player from Opti, dangled a syringe in front of Peri and told her that for a favor, he could restore her memories. Of course, Bill has been lying to Peri for years. Still, she was tempted by his offer.
Peri has had relationships with three men in Opti, Allen, Jack, and Silas. She wished that she could remember more, than just vague pieces, of their time together. She does recall, however, that she once loved Jack, until he betrayed her. Now, he sometimes shows up as a hallucination, popping in and out of her life, following her about, and warning her of danger. She doesn’t know who to trust. Peri’s greatest desire is to stop hallucinating, live a normal life with her memories intact, and be free from addiction. The price for pursuing this dream of hers, though, almost costs Peri, her life.
The Operator is an entertaining, fast-paced, action-packed thriller with a complex plot and plenty of twists to keep the reader turning the pages.

I received this ARC from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Fast paced fun read

I wish I could give this book four and a half stars. I really enjoyed reading it and it was almost perfect. Even though I had reread the first book in the series a couple of months ago, I felt as though the opening of this book could've worked in a bit more recap. It's action packed right from the start and could use a bit of reflection.

I really like Peri Reed. She is a well rounded flawed but lovable character that is easy to relate to. She is a good person put into impossible situations. What's interesting is that her drafting leaves large holes iher memory and she becomes an unreliable narrator in places even as she strives to know her mind better. I think that this is where the author does something really brave. Fans of the hollow series felt a real connection to the cast of characters and felt that they knew them well and every book was like getting to see an old friend; you fall back into the easy patterns of an old relationship as you navigate a new problem. Peri Reed is a character we are never going to have that instant connection with because so many things are jarringly new for her. She has this inherent level of discomfort that translates to the reader and leaves a level of anxiety as well as forcing the reader to remember things for Peri.

I would like to see more permanent relationships solidify in future books. When the main character's mind is not a constant, there needs to be something that functions as a home base or touchstone. It provides the reader and the narrator with a moment to catch their breath. Overall, I do really enjoy this world.

I did receive an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review. I did provide a fair and honest review of the book. I would've read this book even if i wasn't provided with a free copy.

mind bowing twists and turns

The Operator is an intense sci-fi thriller and the second installment in The Peri Reed Chronicles.

Peri can jump time. Betrayed by the very people she put her trust in, Peri discovers that she has been manipulated, deceived and she is now become everything she thought she was fighting against.

On the run from those who wish to control her, Peri's past soon catches up with her, The powers to be are dangling a golden carrot that is almost too good to be true. They have a drug to help with her memory loss without destroying her mind, the only catch they made the drug so highly addictive that any one taking it will be under their control. Peri is intentionally injected with the new drug without her consent. Now she must face the addiction as well as running for her life.

Not knowing who to trust, Peri needs to get someone to reverse engineer the drug while weaving through the deluge of treachery and deceit before she is overcome by the addiction or is killed by a rival.

Past paced, intense action with mind bowing twists and turns, you can’t help but white knuckle read your way through this roller coaster adventure found in The Operator.

I received this ARC copy of The Operator from Pocket Books in exchange for a honest review.
