About Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup
Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup--who also recorded under a plethora of pseudonyms--was a Delta blues singer and guitarist whose most well-known composition is a song made famous by Elvis Presley, "That's All Right, Mama." Crudup got his start in Mississippi in the early 20th century, and eventually moved to Chicago in the '30s to pursue his music. Although recognized as a major contributor to the genre, he was never able to make a living playing the blues, and, to add insult to injury, was cheated out of the royalties for many of his recordings. Nevertheless, he continued to play and sing until his death in 1974.
