IFTTT - Automate work and home 4+

I have been using IFTTT for multiple years now and my day would never function quite so smoothly without it. The wide range of services that can be linked up make it invaluable. I have also found that so many other application can become so much more when paired with IFTTT. When I really think about it I use IFTTT applets all day everyday. But (for the most part) they work so smoothly that I forget it’s even there. One thing just leads to the next and I never notice IFTTT acting as the middleman. Fantastically powerful app. Attractive and easy to use UI. I cannot praise this service enough for the huge value it adds to everything it touches. Give it a chance, apply it to a problem and see what it can do!

Don’t like v 4.0 so I’ve not updated to it on my iPad (sadly did on my iPhone before I knew how bad it is). The app logs me out after every time I quit the app or shut down my phone and the new log in flow is a deal breaker. Has accelerated my move from IFTTT to Zapier with an amazing Zapier Webhooks integration in Shortcuts. Only thing I need the IFTTT app for now is location triggering - soon I may drop that too and delete this app.

3.7.8 was better than 4.0.0. Activity feed is harder to find, the main screen is not as good. And apparently I cannot access all my notifications now; either that or they are buried somewhere that I haven’t found yet. If notifications have been removed ... I generally dislike removal of perfectly good functionality for no reason.

IFTTT is a good concept - easy method of automation for a wide variety of apps. But the iOS app keeps letting me down. After a period of several days it logs me out so my location based trigger will fail to work. I have to regularly manually check I’m still logged in so it will trigger, but that almost defeats the purpose of automating it in the first place. In the past the app would stay logged in even if I turned my phone off. Now every time I turn my phone off or restart it it logs me out.

I’m new to IFTTT, but i have coding and DIY electronics background. This is easy and intuitive, it has great potential to become ultimate automation tool for everything connected. But not all things are here to be connected. Some fail. I’m looking at you Strava, promised so much... didn’t work out at the end. Some are limited to only “not that useful” features, like notifications only. Some work one way only, yes Instagram we can post YOU everywhere, but you don’t return the favour. Some are bound by really strict OS limitation, yes Apple you not best platform for innovation. No system setting manipulation by IFTTT. No wifi, data, or even ring volume switch on iOS? Ugh. And that was the very first reason to get this app. To mute my ringer at office. Ended up using it to turn on off lamps, sending cycling reports, notifying friends and family when I'm around via slack. This is fun.
