Ep 22 : #ESEAEats with Anna Chan from Asian Leadership Collective

The annual #ESEAEats celebrations are here for November!

#ESEAEats (East and Southeast Asian Eats) is an 11K+ Instagram hashtag and engaged community of chefs, small businesses, influencers, food enthusiasts and more! The campaign gives a space where ESEA heritage, and lived experiences can be celebrated with storytelling through food.
The #ESEAEats campaign was launched on Instagram on the 30th November 2020 by two people I'm lucky to call friends! Anna Chan, founder and director of Asian Leadership Collective and Georgie Ma, fellow British Asian podcast host from Chinese Chippy Girl. The campaign highlights the strength and pride of East and Southeast Asian culture, identity, and heritage through food.
Tune in to find out the story behind the campaign, how some ESEA creators + activists have connected and how you can get involved.

I look forward to seeing your #ESEAEats posts on social media, whether that's your next dinner out, takeaway or home-cooked recipe.

Ep 21 : - Barnardo’s - Support for Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) in UK

Ep 21 : - Barnardo’s - Support for Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) in UK

The UK opened up an immigration route for British nationals in Hong Kong and their close family members, in response to China passing the Nationality Security Law in Hong Kong which restricts the rights and freedoms of the people of Hong Kong. This immigration route is known as The Hong Kong British National (Overseas) visa, sometimes abbreviated to HK BNO, and launched on 31 January 2021. An estimated 5.4 million Hong Kong residents are potentially eligible, according to Home Office figures. In the first half to 2021, 65,000 Hong Kong nationals arrived in the UK and the government expects around 475,000 to arrive over the coming years.
In this eye-opening episode, we are hearing first-hand experiences from new arrivals to the UK from the Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) community. Thank you to Mikko Hung who moved to the UK with her family last year and now works as a LINK therapist for Barnardo's, providing support for other migrants.
TW: Brief mentions of sexual abuse and other trauma related to refugees

Experience of Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) relocating to the UK
Mikko's experience in social work and as a therapist for Barnardo's
Supporting ethnic minorities in Hong Kong to becoming an ethnic minority in Scotland
Busting assumptions about the Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) 👀
Comparing experiences between Mikko's work with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and Hong Kong migrants.

This episode is possible thanks to Barnardo’s. The UK’s leading charity for children and families Barnardo’s launched a dedicated helpline last year to support ethnic community families. Since Feb 1st the helpline has been expanded to also offer dedicated services in English and Cantonese to Hong Kong British Nationals (Overseas) relocating to the UK

Ep 20 : Disney and Pixar's Turning Red (with interviews from the cast and crew!)

Ep 20 : Disney and Pixar's Turning Red (with interviews from the cast and crew!)

This episode is all about Disney and Pixar’s all-new original feature film “Turning Red”! I've been so excited about this movie and can't wait to hear what you all think.

There are a few very special guests featured in this episode....

You'll hear interview clips from the London movie premiere with lead voice actress Rosalie Chiang who voices Chinese-Canadian teenager Meilin. I'm soo excited to share clips of the one and only Sandra Oh (“The Chair,” “Killing Eve”), who voices Mei's protective if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming . I also had a chance to interview producer Lindsey Collins and director Domee Shi as part of their UK press junket. To round out Ep 20 I am excited to speak to Steph Fung, founder of Asians In Britain, about being part of the Red Carpet Press at the “Turning Red” London premiere 😍

    Thank you to Media Hive

Turning Red - Meilin "Mei" Lee is a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being her mother's obedient daughter and the chaos of her youth. As if that were not enough, when she gets too excited, she turns into a big red panda. Out on Disney+ from 11th March 2022.

Ep 18 : Queer and Muslim - Bisexuality Day (with Joy @jm_arrow)

TW: use of slurs relating to LGBT+ community
This episode I'm speaking with British Asian writer, Joy, about her experiences as a Muslim bisexual woman with mixed Asian heritages. Phew we cover a lot in this episode - join our great conversation about activism, identity, and personal experiences from an Asian, LGBT+ and Muslim perspective.
Bisexual Awareness Week is celebrated every year on 16-23rd Sept around Bisexuality Day (23rd Sept) #BiWeek
Did you know there are similarities between Muslim, Bisexual and E/SE Asian identities?
Perceived privilege of being Chinese-passing and straight-passing
The problem with census forms (which ethnic box do you check?!)

Joy speaks with such passion and fire, I found this conversation really fun and motivational - hope you do too!

YellowBeePod = QUEEN

Can you do another pod with your sisters please? That was so much fun. I wish I was part of your gang (ie your 5th sister). Love listening to your pods. Your such an inspiration and I hope Sadie grows up just like you.

The podcast

The podcast untangles day to day issues from the ephemeral split second stereotyping of the Asian community to the complex notion of the sense of belonging in a foreign land. Natalie’s clever narrative provides ease in accessibility to these ideas and have sneaked into my top 5 go to podcasts.
