THIS IS THE LAST EPISODE OF THE SEASON.

But first, if you enjoy my podcast, I'd be grateful if you spread the word by leaving a rating and a review. Author Uncut can be found wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts.

Recently while doing a Sensitivity Read, an author asked me if calling someone a "Karen" is a slur or racist. I'll answer that question in this last episode of season 2.

So what exactly is a "Karen?" It's a term used to describe a woman, usually a white woman wielding her privilege by approaching a stranger, usually a black man or woman, accusing them of one thing or another. They may have an issue with their kids in a swimming pool, them sitting on a bench, walking through a neighborhood, sleeping in a student lounge, a child selling water on a stoop, a child mowing lawns for money, a family cookout bbq... the list goes on.

A KAREN, is calling out someone's outrageous racist behavior. It's another way of calling someone racist.

So why are some calling it a slur or racist?

Well, number 1, no one likes to be called a racist; especially if they are racists.

Number 2, one woman on Twitter called it "class prejudice." That's a new one.

Number 3, they feel that they are "victims" of the term and are cast in a bad light.

I believe that is exactly what it is intended to do; cast that person and their outrageous behavior in a bad light and to publicly shame.

Here is a synopsis of Counter Punch:

Everest was not the perfect mom, but what she was, was fierce. After    her husband Anthony died at the hands of a drunk driver, it was up to    her to raise their daughter Mo alone.

Her love for Mo was both unmistakable and unshakable.

But when Mo failed to return home from swim practice with not so much as a text, Everest knew something was wrong.

Will Everest find Mo in time to save her life?

Better still, what will she do to the scumbag that brutalized her daughter?

    Make—him—pay.

Chapter 13: The Drive (Sometimes you can't stop the internal drive in your soul to do bad).

S2. E17. Author Uncut Podcast: Special Episode on George Floyd, Kaepernick, The Holocaust, Slavery & History of Police Brutality (AuthorUncut.com)

YOU MAY FIND THIS EPISODE DISTURBING.

This episode was supposed to be another chapter from Counter Punch. But, with what we have seen on television this week, I felt compelled to give an episode to George Floyd and his family.

George Floyd was the man who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer (Derek Chauvin) by placing a knee on his neck (with his hands in his pockets) for over eight minutes while George pled for his life. Three other officers were also involved.

This episode is more of a stream of consciousness on the subject of police violence and those lost. I have not edited this podcast and am allowing it to run as is.

Please note that I have included a clip from ABC's Nightline with Juju Chang reporting that includes graphic audio of the murder of George Floyd. However, that clip lasts less than one minute.

    In this episode I discuss:

    - Social injustice and police violence

    - The George Floyd murder

    - Philando Castile's murder

    - Sandra Bland's murder

    - Eric Garner's murder

    - Tamir Rice's murder (12 year old murdered by Cleveland police)

    - Colin Kaepernick and taking a knee

    - MLK peaceful protests

    - The Holocaust and Jewish experience

    - Slavery

    - NextDoor community

    - Archie Williams and the Innocence Project (man who was in prison for 36 years before he was exonerated by DNA evidence) and AGT (America's Got Talent)

    - Deflecting by using black-on-black crime to excuse police violence

NOTE: I am so sorry I did not mention Breonna Taylor, an EMT First Responder killed/gunned down in her bed by the police looking for someone they already had in custody.

Great for Writers

I’m interested in sensitivity reading. Also wrote a screenplay and thinking about a novel. Short episodes but packed full of information.
