About Gregg Allman

Gregg Allman was best known as lead singer, organist, and songwriter for the Allman Brothers Band, but he also found some success and popularity with his solo work, which was more soulful and less focused on high-wattage virtuosity. Allman's solo albums included Laid Back (1972), The Gregg Allman Tour (1974), and Playin' Up a Storm (1977), all for Capricorn Records, as well as I'm No Angel (Epic, 1987), which spawned the number one AOR title hit, Just Before the Bullets Fly (1988, Epic), and Searching for Simplicity (1997, Sony). In 2011, Allman released the T-Bone Burnett-produced Low Country Blues on Rounder Records, followed by the live CD/DVD set Back to Macon in 2015. Allman died in May 2017, before the slated release of the Don Was-produced Southern Blood. ~ Bruce Eder & Richard Skelly
