Three Loco

Three Loco

When you consider that Three Loco's moniker was inspired by the controversial alcoholic energy drink Four Loko, it’s safe to assume that Three Loco likes to party. The Los Angeles—based comedy hip-hop trio is MTV alumni Dirt Nasty, Riff Raff, and Andy Milonakis. “Neato”—the first cut from the group's 2012 eponymous EP—interweaves Spanglish slang with pop-culture lampooning, all over a basic hip-hop backdrop that ends up sounding equally inspired by The Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill and most of The Insane Clown Posse’s discography. “Bong Hits” is rife with “your mama” snaps, hard claims, and double (sometimes triple) entendres. But it’s the big distorted bass played at a mellow tempo that lays down a head-nodding groove behind the hilarity. “Not Coming Home Tonight” spoofs R&B ballads with rhymes that brag about hardly brag-worthy topics, like drinking mediocre budget beer and lurking outside a Motel 6. The trio harks back to early-'90s gangsta rap with a tribute to man’s favorite libation in “Beer,” before “Paranoid” simmers down with raunchy rhymes and clouded beats.
