On Young and Heartless’ second album, they transform the ragged earthiness of their debut into something more vaporous. Jeremy Henninger’s intense, intimate vocals still ooze alienation, but this time around, they come cloaked in swelling guitars and bottomless reverb. “Stay Away,” “Fall,” and “Misery on Misery” are emo-stained reflections on heartache that unfold like fuzzy shadow play. Though the music rarely rises above a whisper, the delicately cruising “Noisecreep” is a gorgeous testament to the band’s ability to maximize dynamics in such a minimal setting.
