Book #2 in the Broslin Creek series, “Deathscape” is a riveting read. Author Dana Marton knows her craft, weaving a suspense-packed thriller that kept me guessing about the identity of the serial killer as the storyline unfolded. After surviving three days of unspeakable torture, Detective Jack Sullivan is buried alive by his captor. Artist Ashley Price is struggling with agoraphobia and experiencing fugue-like episodes during which she paints dead people. Only one day she paints a man who’s still alive, but just barely. Recognizing the area where she “sees” him, Ashley gets to him in time and saves Jack. He’s blinded by his obsession of hunting the man who nearly killed him, knowing the killer will return to finish the job. As they each struggle with their demons, they also struggle with the tenuous bond and the ever increasing attraction between them. As in Book 1 of the series, the characters are very real and relatable, probably because they’re as flawed as the rest of us. The tension and suspense kept me reading almost non-stop - Books 1 & 2 in two and a half days. I didn’t guess the killer’s identity but author Dana Marton threw in a red herring or two to muddy the waters. The dialogue is more authentic than in the first book of the series, ditto for the love scenes. I’m definitely on board for Book #3.

Loved this book. Believable characters, believable story. Couldn't wait for my next free time to pick it back up and read some more. Loved the first book, Deathwatch, too. Going to read more of Dana's books.
