OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

You can downgrade quite easily using the internet recovery method. I got fed up of waiting for a fix after many months and decided the few hours of hassle in downloading all my programs again and reuploading my documents was worth it. See here for the tutorial I used https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FvL8rBucUU&feature=iv&src_vid=vxHKUGue60g&annot ation_id=annotation_3752378579. Just don't forget to back everything up before doing this.

After my wife started to get crazy about this, i spend more time to investigate. And what i can see here left me speachless, can't beleive that a company like Apple is not able to provide a quick fix to peoples who are actually WORKING with Apple products and have really hard time to do their job correctly without an urge to throw mac/ipad out through the window.

That said, same problem. Curious stuff here is that we have 2 homes, with the same provider, and one is working fine and the other one is a nightmare. Only difference is one router/box is fiber and the other adsl. From what i can see above i would guess that the fiber router is probably more recent and seem to be able to handle the stuff and the other is not. I can try to see if i can change the old stuff, if not i know a macbook who won't get a long lif in my house....

Hello again osihara! Just getting a moment to pop back in on this God awfully long unresolved Thread of Wi-Fi oppression. It looks as though this Thread has finally come full-circle in work-a-rounds and temp solutions coupled with countless purchases of add-on routers and Apple Extremes. Only to point to one solid piece of evidence. Broadcom Driver issue in the current OS X environment. I am still running Mavericks on my Mac Mini late 2012. I have been running Windows 7 Pro in Boot Camp as we discussed in previous posts. No Wi-Fi issues. I now have done a full and permanent Windows 10 Pro Upgrade to my Windows 7 Pro Install. New Apple Boot Camp/Driver 6.0 upgrade as well. Still....no Wi-Fi issues to report. I'm running Mavericks until....further notice. Don't know what to expect from El Capitan and waiting to see reports of it. Question still remains as to why, on some Mac models, things are fine, on others, they are not. The ending has not yet been written......

Approaching 1.5 million views and 3500 replies. Very, very note-worthy I must say. No real permanent solution in sight. Extraordinary! Guinness Book here we come. Hope Apple gets good supportive data from you and all who are chosen. Cheers!!

I had severe problems with connecting over wifi at home earlier but they are almost gone by now (after a couple of Yosemite upgrades). The only thing left now is that when I connect through my Checkpoint VPN client (E80.60) it works fine to connect, but when I disconnect the VPN that seems to block all internet access until I have restarted my MBP. I'm not sure if that problem relates to the VPN client or Yosemite or a combination. Before Yosemite there were no problem with this.

Indeed. What a mess.

Resorting ot only using the 5hgz worked for a long while (a week!!!! but what a relief) and now bang, I've returned to intermittent connectivity.

On Maverick, I don't have a problem - installed on my iMac. I wished that I'd NEVER upgrade.

On my more recent macbook Pro, it seems to be working fine. But on my macbook air, yikes. I could throw it out the window.

Any updates coming up soon?

My other question is: how truly simple is it too downgrade to Maverikcs?

Hello! Apology for the late response. Looks as though iPhoneUser1000 is pointing you in the right direction.

Downgrading is not a problem for those who's Mac's shipped with Mavericks. Internet Recovery instructions from Apple Support Documents will guide you through. Downgrading to Mavericks if you have already downloaded the Mavericks Install App is a non-issue as well. Those who's Macs shipped with Mountain Lion or Yosemite and don't have the Mavericks Installer App in their Purchases in the App Store are the one's who are having the grief since Mavericks is not available for Download or Purchase from Apple. This is the conundrum, this is the frustration. I know I haven't said much that anyone doesn't know but it's apparent that Yosemite is widely accepted and used and many are not experiencing or reporting the issue. I believe some have the issue and just do not realize it. Hat's off to those who are hanging in there. Cheers!!

I'm having the same issue on my Mid-2014 Macbook Pro 13 inch. I use 5Ghz Wifi and a BT wireless mouse and it keeps disconnecting every 15 mins.

If Apple cannot fix that issue with software updates they should offer a computer replacement.

There is no major changes between 2014 and 2015 series. If this is the only way to fix the issue, Apple please replace 2014 models by 2015 ones.

There already is. Several way to access it. Easiest way is to hold down option and click on the menu-bar Wi-Fi icon. there are two options near the top for you to use.

- Amendment - Once you have the zip it created on your desktop just attach it to a software report ticket. If you are using a beta you can access this from help menu.
