About Wings

Led by former Beatle Paul McCartney, Wings was one of the most successful pop rock bands of the 1970s, with 7 Top 10 albums, a Platinum-selling live LP, and more than 20 awards. ∙ After a post-Beatles solo album (McCartney) and a collaborative LP with his wife Linda (RAM), McCartney formed the band Wings and released their debut, Wild Life, in 1971. ∙ “Live and Let Die”—their theme song for the 1973 James Bond film of the same name—was a No. 1 hit, won a Grammy award, and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. ∙ Wings’ 1973 LP, Band on the Run, was a multi-Platinum, international chart-topping smash, thanks to a pair of hit singles: “Jet” and the Grammy-winning signature title track. ∙ The group’s ’75-’76 world tour spawned a triple-LP live album (Wings Over America), a TV special (Wings Over the World), and a theatrical concert film (Rockshow). ∙ The bagpipe-fueled “Mull of Kintyre”—their 1977 double-Platinum standalone single—ended up becoming the band’s only UK No. 1 hit and was the first song to sell over 2 million copies in England. ∙ The Grammy-winning “Rockestra Theme” from Wings’ final studio LP, 1979’s Back to the Egg, featured such all-star guests as David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, and John Bonham.
