Got me through three bad years. 1959-1962
I would sneak my radio under the sheets and listen to Sheps tales of a foreign land (Indiana) and share in his humor and intellect. He painted a picture of a happier world where people didn’t have to be perfect. In fact, the characters he told us about were wonderfully warm and human. I know they were real Americans because I’ve met many of them through my life.
Just as true now as he was at the dawn of time when I first heard him.
The best podcasts!
Became a fan as a youngster around 1972. I faithfully listened to Shep on WOR on my AM in bed each night in NJ. I ultimately got to see him live in Princeton at Holder Hall ... I think it was 1980.
Feels like the old days
Listening to Shep with these podcast programs reminds me of when I first heard them over fifty years ago on WOR with my portable am radio under the pillow. It felt like he was talking to me personally every night. I got my best friend hooked on him as well and then I found out that my father and grandfather both listened to him. His stories and observations are still relevant today.
