Publisher Description

Will it be a summer of fresh starts or second chances?

For Lucy, the Jersey Shore isn’t just the perfect summer escape, it’s home. As a local girl, she knows not to get attached to the tourists. They breeze in during Memorial Day weekend, crowding her costal town and stealing moonlit kisses, only to pack up their beach umbrellas and empty promises on Labor Day. Still, she can’t help but crush on charming Connor Malloy. His family spends every summer next door, and she longs for their friendship to turn into something deeper.

Then Superstorm Sandy sweeps up the coast, bringing Lucy and Connor together for a few intense hours. Except nothing is the same in the wake of the storm, and Lucy is left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and her broken home. Time may heal all wounds, but with Memorial Day approaching and Connor returning, Lucy’s summer is sure to be filled with fireworks.

Not all that great

I cannot tell you how much this book had me ranting to myself over the reactions of its characters. They're just plain idiotic. I think the author, Jennifer, was just looking for a way to add conflict into the story by making some of the characters completely dislikable- including Andrew, Liam, and Kiki. And to mention in very cliche ways as well.

The main character, Lucy, lets everyone walk all over her, but gets angry and defensive when someone (Connor) actually stands up for her. For example, when Lucy's brother, Liam, called Lucy a b*tch when it was totally uncalled for, and Connor punched him in the face. Then Liam proceeds to play the hurt victim (just like he does throughout the entire story) and Lucy is willing to let it completely ruin her relationship with Connor. I found this ridiculous.

In order to write a good book the first rule as a writer, and I would know as I am an author myself, is to make your reader LIKE your main character, and towards the end Jennifer doesn't do a very good job of that. Maybe it just has to do with my specific personality, but I found Lucy to be spineless and quite annoying.

So, because of this, I'd rate this book at 3 stars. I've read much better, and you can too.
(If you need any romance suggestions try any book by Kasie West, especially The Distance Between us or Split Second, both are phenomenal.)
