Lawyer Up or plead the fifth

Lawyer Up is an intense erotic collaboration of three contemporary short novels. Settings are centered within the legal profession where worlds collide, sparks fly resulting in hot lascivious sizzling scenes. Discovering unexpected second chances and finding love again. Every tale is unique and pure hot perfection. Virtual Page turner!
Author has a unique writing style. Skillfully developed characters with a well-developed storyline. This is a fast-paced read. I was in awe from the beginning to end. By no means does it ever lose momentum.
Stories were astonishingly fabulous! Read with caution your hands may acquire scorch marks. Without reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend.

so many missed opportunities

A three story anthology, the second in this series I have read, that uses the common threads of a slight disillusionment and the legal profession. I’d read the first (Playing Doctor) to mixed reaction, and found some of the similar emotions in this one. The stories in this book are Unsound Mind and Body, Attorney Client Privileges and Of Writs and Writhing. Each story is a quick bite, between 50 and 100 pages with a legal issue or scene/setting at the forefront.

Attorney Client Privileges is based on a wrongly accused woman and the lawyer who comes to her rescue, both in the courtroom and bedroom. Jon is attracted to the quiet Beth, and agrees to represent her in her case. But this was uneven for me, attraction and chemistry between the two was never clearly established or even particularly solidly presented, so it was a very on again off again sort of feeling. Jon often felt more predator than advocate to me because of the uneven chemistry, and that put a pall on the story overall for me.

In Unsound Mind and Body the connection with Liza and Hawk was palpable, and this made the steam just roll off the pages. The separation between them, living in different cities left me wanting more than a happy for now for this couple, while the legal moments were less important to the overall trajectory – the couple became the highlight here.

Lastly was Of Writs and Writing, with an older couple: Judge and Attorney. Both are still stuck in past relationships and proving themselves worthy, but their moments together are steamy and quite unique. The interactions in this story are the best of the lot, with character development that actually feels plausible and reveals as the story moves from courtroom to steam. A toss-up between this and Unsound Mind and Body for my favorite of the three.

As I experienced in Playing Doctor, these three stories all have moments that shine, although the steamy moments are often let down from uneven chemistry and character development, usually emotional. Less ‘creative’ uses of euphemisms for body parts (a HUGE pet peeve) and limited purple prose did improve this read for me, but so many missed opportunities to expand on connections, tighten chemistry and provide palpable and logical reasons for these connections leave this solidly in the ok not great reading pile for me.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
